Description

Exceptionally rare and important chart of the Chinese waters. Philipp Franz Balthasar von Siebold achieved great prominence as physician and botanist for the Dutch colonial empire in Asia.

The title explains that this chart is largely based on 17th century VOC vellum navigation charts of the area.

Von Siebold achieved prominence by his studies of Japanese flora and fauna and the introduction of Western medicine in Japan. He was the father of the first female Japanese doctor, Kusumoto Ine.
